My husband changed the struts in our 2005 Toyota Matrix XR on Thursday. Today, he had the car professionally aligned, even though it wasn't pulling at all and the steering seemed good. Tonight, it started to make a knocking sound on the front left side when going over bumps. What could it be? Strut loose or something else? Needs to get fixed tonight if possible. Thanks for your input.

bad strut mounts or better bushings are bad for struts down on the a frame .you can have some one lean on the car like rock it up and down and you will hear it where its coming from.
Have your hubby check the top bolts that anchor the struts with a torque wrench to specs.
it seems like bad strut mounts. very common, use a pro for car repair, we do it better
